WAYNE, Pa. – February 4, 2008 – The Main Line Chamber of Commerce (MLCC) announced the kick-off of its partnership with Widener University’s Small Business Development Center offering educational programs for small businesses as part of its commitment to helping businesses start, grow, and prosper. Chamber University, a program offered by MLCC, is the framework and primary resource of business information for the continuous enhancement of education and professional development.

The partnership provides access to numerous valuable and effective business tools.  Together they offer educational sessions such as the upcoming workshop, “The 7 Habits of Effective Small Business Managers” based on the highly acclaimed book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey.  The workshop has been approved to offer 16 hours / 17 continuing education credits at one-half of the normal fee.  The course is open to the public and the fee for both days is $395 for MLCC members and $495 for non-members and will be held at The Main Line Chamber Conference Center located in Wayne on February 22 and 23.

“Covey took us step by step in teaching us the tools we needed to operate a successful business.  Anyone going into business should start here.  Our world would be a better place for all,” is what one individual had to say after taking the extremely valuable Covey course.   Another stated, ““This information has been presented in a way that has opened my eyes and mind.  I have been able to identify past mistakes and now see new ways to handle situations in business and in life. Thank you.”

“The response received from these people and others is a testament that the Chamber’s partnership with SBDC will continue to assist small businesses by offering great savings and valuable programs,” said Steve DiOrio, chairman of the Business Education Committee at the Chamber and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors. “We are excited about the programming scheduled for the coming year and look forward to a longstanding relationship with SBDC- Widener.”

Widener Small Business Development Center (SBDC) was founded in January 2007 and is one of 18 SBDCs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The center provides free and confidential consulting services to entrepreneurs as well as educational workshops for which they charge a nominal fee. Widener SBDC is strongly committed to helping small businesses (for SBDC  purposes, a small business is defined as having less than $20 million in revenue per year and fewer than 500 employees). While the workshops are open to all, consulting services are generally limited to for-profit ventures. SBDC is located in the University Technology Park (UTP) building of Widener University in Chester, PA.
